“They treated us like family.”
– Angie Richards, Cape Town

“We started Agapé Care because we believe every person deserves to be cared for with dignity – and every family deserves support they can trust.”

Agapé is the Greek word for unconditional, selfless love. It’s not a name we chose lightly. It shapes how we vet caregivers, how we match them to your family, how we follow up, and how we respond when things are hard. We’re not just filling a gap in the market. We’re trying to do something genuinely good.

WHY FAMILIES COME TO US

When someone you love needs more help than you can give, the weight of it is real.

You’re managing work, family, and everything else – while worrying whether Mom is safe, whether Dad is eating, whether the caregiver you found independently is actually trustworthy. It’s exhausting, and it’s lonely.

We carry that with you. We handle the vetting, the matching, the coordination, and the ongoing oversight – so you can stop managing and start trusting. And if something isn’t right, we respond. That’s our commitment.

HOW IT WORKS

Simple, human, and supported every step of the way.

Step 1

A real conversation

We talk through your situation – unhurried, without pressure. We want to understand what your family actually needs, not just fill a slot.

Step 2

Careful matching

We match on experience, personality, language, and values. A registered nurse can conduct a clinical assessment where needed.

Step 3

A proper introduction

We don’t hand over and disappear. We make a proper introduction and ensure care starts with confidence on both sides.

Step 4

We stay with you

We check in, follow up, and respond quickly if anything changes. You always have someone to call – not a ticket number, a person.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

"When my mom became frail and wheelchair-bound, and my dad was diagnosed with lymphoma and started chemotherapy, everything felt overwhelming. He had always been her primary caregiver, and suddenly he was too weak to help her. Agape Care stepped in at exactly the right time. Their support allowed my parents to remain together at home, with dignity and comfort, during an incredibly difficult season. We will always be grateful for the compassion, steadiness and genuine care they brought into our lives."

Angie Richards

"Grace was an absolute gift to our family. From the very beginning she brought warmth, patience and a calm confidence that put everyone at ease. She didn’t just do her job, she truly cared. Having her in our home made such a difference during a time when we really needed extra support. I cannot speak highly enough of her or of Agape Care for connecting us with someone so special."

Rosalind Jones

"When we reached out to Agape Care, we felt exhausted and unsure of what to do next. From the first call, we felt understood. They didn’t treat us like a case number. They treated us like family. The caregiver they sent has such a gentle heart and real love for what she does. You can’t train that. You either have it or you don’t. Agape clearly looks for it."

What makes us different

We vet like it's our own family

Criminal record, credit, and health checks are standard. We only place caregivers we’d trust in our own homes, because that’s the standard we hold ourselves to.

Clinical oversight where it matters

A registered nurse can conduct a full in-home assessment for complex or post-hospital needs – giving your family medical confidence, not just administration.

Matched, not assigned

Personality, language, culture, experience, and values all factor into who we recommend. The right match isn’t just practical — it changes everything.

We don't disappear

Placing a caregiver is the beginning, not the end. We stay involved – checking in, responding to changes, and adjusting quickly when life doesn’t go to plan.

Common questions

How quickly can care start?

In most cases we can arrange care within 24 to 48 hours. For urgent situations — a sudden discharge from hospital, a family crisis, a carer who has let you down — same-day starts are possible. Call or WhatsApp us directly and we’ll do everything we can to help as fast as possible.

Does medical aid cover home care?

It depends on your plan and provider. Some medical aids – including Discovery, Bonitas, and Medihelp – do provide benefits for home nursing or post-hospital care under certain conditions, typically requiring pre-authorisation and a clinical motivation. We can’t guarantee cover, but we’re happy to help you understand what to ask your scheme and what documentation may be needed. It’s always worth checking before assuming it isn’t covered.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. We don’t believe in locking families into contracts, because care needs change – sometimes quickly. Whether you need support for a week after surgery or ongoing live-in care for years, the arrangement is flexible and built around your situation. If your needs change, we adapt. If care is no longer needed, there’s no penalty.

What if the caregiver isn't the right fit?

We rematch you. A placement isn’t done in our eyes until your family feels settled and comfortable. Fit matters – personality, communication style, energy – and we take it seriously from the start. If something isn’t working, tell us and we’ll act quickly. You won’t be left managing a difficult situation alone.

Can you help with complex or clinical needs?

Yes. For post-hospital recovery, palliative care, or any situation requiring clinical input, we can arrange a registered nurse to conduct a full in-home assessment. This informs the care plan and ensures the right level of caregiver is placed. The nurse assessment is offered as a separate professional service and can be arranged as part of your onboarding.

What languages do your caregivers speak?

Our caregivers speak English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa. Language and cultural fit are part of how we match – not an afterthought. Feeling comfortable and understood in your own home matters enormously, especially for elderly clients or those with cognitive conditions. If language is a priority for your family, tell us upfront and we’ll make sure it’s central to the match.

You don’t have to figure
this out on your own.

A free consultation takes about 20 minutes. We’ll listen properly, answer your questions honestly, and tell you what we think the right next step is – whether that’s with us or not.
